A Drum and bass odyssey

This tape was put together around October 2000 (I think). It contains a lot of the anthems of 2000, and also some lesser-known but worthy material all mixed and mashed together. Drum'n'bass moves fast, but this tape is a testament to where it was at at the time.

Track listing

side a

  1. Autokarma - Klute

This creepy roller kicks off the tape on a smooth yet sinister vibe. Check the Klute album "Fear of People" on Cert 18 records.

  2. ? - ?

This is a white. Percussive with a funky bassline.

  3. It Ain't Hard To Tell (Acapella) - Nas

This rap comes from a single from Nas' first, and only good, album.

  4. Nightvision - J Majik

This comes from the Nightvision collection on J's own Infrared records.

  5. Airforce - Aquasky

Aquasky's first real tech tune. A solid effort on the double zero label.

  6. Show Me - Supply & Demand

This is from Chronic 14. A bubbling, hard bassline underpins smooth vox.

  7. Detroit Blues (Moving Fusion mix) - DJ Reality

This is wicked. A Detroit-style electro-influenced burner given the Moving Fusion treatment. Available on Armaggedon 2, Renegade Hardware.

  8. Move - Ryme Tyme

The V.I.P of this tune was so tight his mates begged him to release the original. A grinder with a vocal compelling you to move.

  9. Embargo - Total Science

Love this tune. Total Science go for crazed clattering breaks and ragga samples. Sweet.

  10. Star Trails - Kemal & Rob Data

This is the usual M.O. for the Audio Blueprint label. A smooth yet funky tech tune.

side b

  1. Hangman - Moving Fusion and Shimon

Coming from Ram Raiders Vol I, this is a blazing, funky-as-hell piece of hardcore Ram bizness.

  2. Dubplate (Total Science Remix) - Wot's My Code

Total Science remix a hardcore standard. It just goes insane, basically.

  3. Bombin' - X-men

Another tune from the double zero label. Interesting percussion and a juicy funk bassline do indeed make this bombin'.

  4. Break Ya Neck - Krust

Crazy analogue sounds and a cracking break make this a wub-wub-wub-wub classic.

  5. Tumpa (Flashback) - )E|B(

We used to go insane hearing this intro while it was on dubplate. Good times...

  6. Be With You - Codename John

Aka Grooverider. Brings together some disparate elements that you wouldn't think would work, but they do. Gong...

  7. Jittabug - Die

Heh heh heh. Who thought three notes could be so damn good? Die of course a Full Cycle/ Reprazent stalwart, has an ear for simple but great riffs.

  8. Champion Sound (Total Science mix) - Q Project

Oh, my god. The tune of 2000, no question. Check Total Science's "Advance" album for this and other great tunes.

  9. Lords Of Motion - Aquasky

First release on Aquasky's new Sonix label. Driving and oddly uplifting, a damn cool tune.

  10. Can't Punish Me - Dom & Roland

Dom & Roland take advantage of the hardcore trend to make an evil, evil bassline work with a crazy masochistic vocal. Nice.
